berlin Fair History & Tradition

The Berlin Fair has been part of Connecticut’s history since it began as a Harvest Festival in 1882, later becoming the State Agricultural Fair in the early 1900s before being revived in 1948 by the Berlin Lions Club. Today, it continues as one of the state’s major fall events, featuring livestock shows, tractor pulls, pie-eating contests, frog-jumping contests, rides, and music. The fair also provides community groups with a chance to raise money through food stands, games, and local booths. Over the years, proceeds have gone toward scholarships, youth programs, senior activities, and organizations like the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and the CT Lions Low Vision Center. Held each September at the Berlin Fairgrounds, the fair is a long-running tradition that welcomes visitors from near and far.

From Berlin's Got Talent and demolition derby to tractor pulls, double figure eight racing, and concerts, the Berlin Fair has so many different events and forms of entertainment spread out across four days that it would make your head spin. To take a look at the full event schedule, click here.

Food & Drinks at the berlin Fair

From classics like fried dough, freedom fries, and fair lemonade to big, sugar raised donuts, meatball bombs, and thai food, the Berlin Fair has every possible food you could crave on fair day. There's both commercial food vendors (vendors who are at every fair, like the baked potato booths, ice cream booths, etc) and non-profit vendors like the American Legion, Lions Club, local churches, and local fire departments to choose from. For a complete list of all the food that's going to be at the Berlin Fair this year, as well as new foods for the 2025 fair, navigate to the official fair website.

PARKING & TRANSPORTATION FOR THE BERLIN FAIR

The Berlin Fair offers free, onsite parking at the fairgrounds, located at 430 Beckley Road in Berlin. However, parking fills up super quickly, especially on the weekends, which is why the Berlin Lions Club recommends utilizing the free shuttle bus service that runs continuously on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the fair. To use the shuttle, simply park your car at Assa Abloy (located at 275 Deming Road) or Eversource (located at 107 Selden Street) and wait for the next bus. When leaving the fair to get onto the shuttle and go back home, you'll notice a large sign marking shuttle buses near the North Entrance.
